The Omaha System:

Charlotte Stepanian will be visiting each MAPHN chapter this spring to provide an introduction to the Omaha System and what it can do for PHNs.

Prior to attending the presentation Charlotte has requested that you visithttp://www.omahasystem.org/ to explore the website and get more information and/or read the attached file, which is chapter 3 of the guidebook.

From the guidebook:

The Omaha System is a research-based, comprehensive classification designed to generate meaningful data following documentation of client care. It is a way to measure outcomes of care and prove the effectiveness of provider services. It can be used for individuals, families, and communities. It depicts the complex blend of art and science that characterizes excellent evidenced-based health care practice, and the ever-increasing emphasis on the “knowledge work” of health care professionals. The system is used by health departments, home care agencies, school health services, community clinics, hospitals, etc.

  • What is "Region" on the Join MAPHN Form?

There are several chapters of MAPHN  located throughout the Commonwealth based on the State Department of Public Health (DPH) regional divisions.  The six health regions delineated by the MA Executive Office of Health and Human Services (EOHHS) and used by DPH for statistical care coordination and administrative puroses are Western, Central, Northeast, Metro-West, Boston and Southeast.  Recently, Metrowest and Central have merged (unofficially) to better serve the organization with membership numbers.

The individual Chapters are named after and located within that region, so it is recommended that you select a Chapter which is geographically convenient.  Additionally, you might find that there are interests representative of your particulare region.  The regional differences are acknowledged in each chapter as it may influence trainings, educational programs, etc.

  • What are the benefits of joining the MAPHN?
