Kitty Mahoney, RN, MS, Chief Public Health Nurse On June 12, 2010 Kitty Mahoney, RN, MS, was awarded the Association of State and Territorial Directors of Nursing (ASTDN) Recognition Award at its annual meeting in Crystal City, VA by incoming ASTDN President, Clair Millet, APRN, MN, PHCNS-BC, and Glynnis LaRosa, RN, MPH, ASTDN Massachusetts state representative and ASTDN President-Elect. The Recognition Award is presented annually to “a person who has provided exceptional service to the Association or to public health nursing”. Kitty was nominated for this prestigious award due to hard work for the town of Framingham and its citizens as the Chief Public Health Nurse as well as her work with the Massachusetts Association of Public Health Nurses (MAPHN) as its President for the past year where Kitty has shown superior leadership qualities and has increased the visibility of public health nurses as well as advanced the mission of organization which represents more than 200 public health nurses across the state.
ASTDN was founded in 1935 as an advisory group of state health department public health nurses. ASTDN is celebrating its 75th anniversary and has grown it membership which now includes public health nursing leaders across the U.S. and its territories and the numerous communities and populations served by public health nurses. ASTDN is an affiliate of the Association of State and Territorial Health Officials (ASTHO). ASTDN is a member of the Quad Council of Public Health Nursing organizations that focus on public/community health nursing. These organizations are: Association of Community Health Nursing Educators (ACHNE), American Nursing Association (ANA), American Public Association’s Public Health Nursing Section and the Association of State and Territorial Directors of Nursing (ASTDN). |
