Deputy Chief of Public Health Nursing

    The City of Worcester, Division of Public Health, seeks candidates for Deputy Chief of Public Health Nursing to provide investigation and case management of all assigned reportable diseases within the City of Worcester and member towns of the Central MA Regional Public Health Alliance (CMRPHA), including specialized case management for tuberculosis patients and case and contact investigation of COVID-19 patients. Under the direct supervision of the Chief of Public Health Nursing, the Deputy Chief will work with community partner organizations and agencies to coordinate the care of patients and do so in a culturally competent manner. Additionally, the role includes the investigation of foodborne illness complaints, blood pressure clinics and supporting mass dispensing operations. This position requires the use of the Massachusetts Epidemiological Virtual Network (MAVEN) and the Massachusetts Immunization Information System (MIIS). Flexibility to perform unexpected day-to-day tasks related to public health is required. The Deputy Chief will be required to serve as the 24/7 Duty Officer on a rotating basis.

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    • ·       Familiarity with the Massachusetts Virtual Epidemiological Network (MAVEN).
    • ·       Familiarity with the Massachusetts Immunization Information System (MIIS).
    • ·       Familiarity with Massachusetts General Laws related to communicable disease investigation, surveillance, and quarantine.
    • ·       Clear and demonstrated understanding of ICS structure.
    • ·       Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
    • ·       Critical thinking skills (ability to interpret MDPH and CDC guidelines).
    • ·       Management skills (assign duties, time management, and supervision).
    • ·       Good organizational skills with the ability to develop timelines meet deliverables and be autonomous.
    • ·       Demonstrated cultural competence working with diverse ethnicities, cultures, and socioeconomic groups.
    • ·       Senior Center programming.
    • ·       Ability to manage multiple tasks in a detailed and timely manner; and to be flexible/shift priorities unexpectedly.
    • ·       Ability to analyze problems, provide alternatives, and identify solutions in support of established goals and projects.
    • ·       Ability to maintain, manage, and organize records.
    • ·       Comfortable with public speaking skills and ability to make formal presentations to large groups.
    • ·       Ability to maintain confidential information.
    • ·       Ability to prepare written reports.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • ·       Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN), plus five (5) years of experience as a Public Health Nurse; OR,
    • o   An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, plus ten (10) years of experience as Public Health Nurse.
    • ·       Licensed Registered Nurse (RN).
    • ·       A valid Massachusetts driver’s license.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    • ·       Master’s Degree in Nursing, plus previous experience as a Public Health Nurse.
    • ·       Professional experience using MAVEN and MIIS.

    SALARY RANGE: $64,346 - $84,278 annually, full-time, exempt, with an excellent benefits package.
