This grant-funded position will support the towns of North Andover, Andover, Reading, North Reading, Lynnfield and the City of Haverhill. The Health Departments are engaged in an innovative initiative to strengthen core local public health services, to advance the recommendations of the 2019 Special Commission on Local and Regional Public Health and promote healthier communities across the region. The Public Health Nurse is responsible for performing a variety of public health duties, including responding to public inquiries and public health issues; organization of public health education and outreach; implementing public health programs; communicable disease reporting; infectious disease outbreak investigations; organizing immunization clinics; emergency planning and response; and other similar duties as necessary to improve community health.

Required Education, Training, and Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health or Nursing; supplemented by at least 3 years of experience in a public health field; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills:

· Work is performed mostly in the office and field; hand-eye coordination is necessary to operate computers and various pieces of office equipment. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, walk, kneel, talk and hear; use hands and fingers to handle, feel, or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
· The employee is frequently required to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch, or crawl.
· The employee is occasionally exposed to dust, noise, and disease.

Most work is performed in a typical office setting, other work is performed in off-site locations such as meeting spaces, schools, clinicians’ offices, hospitals, businesses, and homes of patients and clients and other varying conditions with the possibility of exposure to contagious diseases, blood borne pathogens, and high-risk patients. The volume and nature of work are subject to unplanned events, such as disease outbreaks and other public health emergencies. The employee has regular contact with the general public, Board of Health, Town departments and state agencies to provide and obtain information pertaining to health issues and provide services.
